MIL Levy

Hello Grizzly Parents!

If you are curious about how much taxes you will be paying log onto the Roaring Fork School District web site.  They posted a Mil Levy Calculator!

Background:
Our local schools need additional funding. Colorado is ranked 40
education spending. Recent cuts in the state's funding of education have been exacerbated by a $9
million reduction in local real estate tax revenue. Funding per student is down 11% compared to 2
years ago and trails the national average by about $1,919.

The yes vote will recover $4.8 of the $5.1 million funding cut.

If you own a $300,000 home, your RFSD taxes are projected to decrease by about $250 per year as the
result of reduced assessed values. Voting 4 OUR Kids allows the district to keep $113 of that amount,
which equals only $9.42 per month.
th in the country in terms of per pupil

Current funding is not sufficient:
To prevent teachers’ jobs from being eliminated. 15 teachers have already been cut and more will
be cut next year if the mill levy does not pass.

To retain and attract good teachers. Teachers’ compensation is already well below state and
national averages.

To enable appropriate class sizes. Keeping classes a reasonable size is essential to quality
education.

To purchase new books & updated technology. No new books have been purchased in 3 years,
some books are 10 years old.

This is a problem that we
CAN address locally here in the valley.

In addition to being great for our kids, strong schools are a critical aspect of a strong community,
even helping retain property values.
from creating opportunities for students to reach their potential, to helping create a more vibrant
community from an economic standpoint, to enhancing property values. In the end, our communities
and businesses are directly impacted by the quality and perceptions of our schools.

This is not just a problem for students, not just a problem for teachers/administration, not just a
problem for parents of school-aged students. It is
right thing for the entire community.

Things you can do:
Become an advocate encouraging others to vote yes.
Donate to Vote 4 Our Kids.
Volunteer on the Vote 4 Our Kids campaign.
